I mainly worked on this project as a FX Artist. I was in charge of the main smoke of the Train which was a chalenging thing to do. In fact, the train was moving very quickly and the smoke also have to be able to slow down in time. For this, I developped a asset with Houdini where I imported maya animated scene to easily simulate and render the smokes. This helped me to keep the same shape and rendering all along the movie. I modified the default smoke solver to optimize simulation time. As we see the smoke closly, we need to get high resolution smoke. I simulated only the begining of the smoke in a small high resolution field. Then I simulated all the smoke in a lower resolution field. I mixed the result of those two simulation. I also re-use the same smoke, to avoid resimulating for shoots which look the same.
I also helped on this project by doing the multy-tiled shader of the locomotive and developing some scripts in Python for various operations.
